On February 3rd, which happened to be Superbowl Sunday, yes Superbowl Sunday, Extreme Time Attack held Round 2 of the 2013 season at Willow Springs International Raceway. The sarcastic question I heard multiple times that day were, “Is there is a game today?”. You know you are a die hard gear head if you are at the track on Superbowl Sunday. The way I see it is, why wouldn’t you be at the track? Blasting around corners and diving in deep into corners is WAY more fun than couch surfing anyday!
Here is No. 88 Ben Kawata in his green Viper who ran a best of 1:33.779 during the Time Attack sessions. This was enough for first place in the RWD Open Class.
Here is John Carson in his ETS and KT Motoring sponsored Evo 9. Got enough tape on your front end, John? This isn’t the Drag Racing, or Land Speed Racing! John was strangely bumped up to tuner class due to his front splitter and because he took his back seats out. Otherwise, this is a Street Class car per Redline Time Attack and Global Time Attack rules. Personally, I think it would only benefit the sport of Time Attack if all the rules were streamlined. As a result, John was only able to manage a third place finish in AWD Tuner Class with a 1:32.647 on Street Tires. Meanwhile, Cody Kishel in his Tuner Class Evo X took advantage of the rule set by running 275 Nitto NT01’s, and grabbed 2nd place in Tuner Class with a 1:31.626
Justin Bordonaro shown above, took 1rst in AWD Tuner Class and set the the fastest time of the day with a 1:30.909 despite having his confidence shooken after a scary off at the inside of turn 9 during the previous session. He mentioned that he was babying it in T8 and T9 as well during his hot lap due to his reduced confidence. Justin should be able to dip into the sub 1:30 category once his is confidence is restored when Redline visits WSIR in April. He has assigned Blackbird Fab Worx the task of building him a full custom roll-cage.
Here are the results for the AWD classes:
Here is Quirt Crawford of Crawford Performance who took 3rd in RWD Open Class in his Hoosier Slicked Turbo Charged BRZ with a 1:34.341.
Robert Fuller of Robispec was out in his Street Class RWD Scion FRS. He was able to secure a 2nd place spot with a 1:35.095.
